Music performance technique

What is your instrument ?

I've started singing from a early age and ever since then music has been a hobby to me. i didn't have any specific type of rehersals or lessons and exercises. even though i never took singing too seriously it has always been there, and at the age of 17 i started to focus on singing more, so i went and started to sing in a quire and that is when i started to gain disipline, the type of exercises that we used to do was all rounded, i would focus on my breathing, my vocal range and also my fitness level, from then i started to make personal strategies:

  • Monday - Breathing (60 Minuets)
  • Tuesday - Vocal Range (60 Minuets)
  • Wednesday - Rehearse Songs (150 Minuets)
  • Thursday - Harmonies (150 Minuets)
  • Friday - Fitness (4 Hours)
  • Saturday - Recovery (All Day)
  • Sunday - Performance
*My Routine For 3 Years*

My current practice routine is singing whilst im in the shower for about 1 hour. I practice my scales, i also work on my vocal range for about 10 minuets and then i mainly jam. What i want to improve for now is my breathing, my vocal range and my fitness, so what my plan is to get my old routine back because my current routine is not as effective as my old routine. This is how i want my new plan to be:

  • Monday - Breathing (60 Minuets)
  • Tuesday - Vocal Range (15 Minuets Warmup, 60 Minuets Of Scales)
  • Wednesday - Rehearse Songs (150 Minuets + 180 Minuets Of Song Writing)
  • Thursday - Breathing (15 Minuets Warmup, 60 Minuets Of Breathing)
  • Friday - Vocal Range (60 Minuets)
  • Saturday - Rehearsing Songs (150 Minuets)
  • Sunday - Rest
The reason why I chose to do these exercises everyday for a long period of time is because they are effective and successful to strengthen my vocals and rehearsing these exercises daily will improve my breathing, my vocal range, my song writing skills at a faster level.
This type of schedule will set me up for a upcoming performance and it will also set me up for the future. I always felt that my breathing let me down in some performance and having a routine in which I can practice my breathing more then once a week will definitely get the result I want, the reason am so sure about this is because I followed this type of routine before and I noticed a big difference.

  1. Set yourself time related targets for this singing practice content. The content is good. It's just needs to be SMART and you can do this by saying when targets will be achieved by. you can also set yourself Production targets. Set a target (or targets) to show what you will do to improve your production skills. This should involve the sessions that you are doing for ‘Westking Music’ artists. Make sure it has an end date. This should have been done last Wednesday (20.11.13)
